What To See

Bonaire Museum
Slightly out from the town center, this museum is in an 1885 house filled with folklore displays. Look for the detailed paintings of local mythology by Winifred Dania.

Washington-Slagbaai National Park
Covering the northwest portion of the island and comprising almost 20% of the land, Washington-Slagbaai National Park is a great place to explore. Roads are rough and all-but-impassable after a rain, but are well worth the effort. The terrain is mostly tropical desert, and there is a proliferation of cacti and birds. Entrance is about 5km (3mi) from Rincon.

Cadushy of Bonaire
See all the cactus growing on Bonaire? Here you can drink it. Eric and Jolande Gietman moved here to make their exotic liquor, Cadushy. The cloudy green stuff is rather alluring and you can sit, sample and let them tell you all about Rincon’s history.

Bonaire's biggest party is Carnival, which features music, dancing and celebrations of the harvest from late February to early March. You can 'jump-up' on National Day, when most of the action happens in Rincon. The week-long October International Sailing Regatta brings a fleet of racers to the bay off Kralendijk. In November, slip on your speedos for the Bonaire Eco-Swim, a 5km (3mi), 10km (6mi) or 1500m (metric mile) challenge in sea conditions practically guaranteed to be perfect.
