Guadalajara Vacations

Guadalajara's charms are distributed equally and liberally throughout its distinct neighborhoods. The city's Centro Histórico (Historic Center) is dotted with proud colonial relics that house museums, government offices, bars and hotels. Chapultepec is sprinkled with fashionable restaurants, coffeehouses and nightclubs. Worth a visit are nearby suburbs - Zapopan, Tlaquepaque and Tonalá - formerly separate communities that have retained their small-town charm.

What To Do

Spend days traipsing through museums and galleries, wandering the streets taking in the historic buildings or relaxing in one of the city's many plazas. Arty Tlaquepaque, 4 miles southeast of Guadalajara is worth a trip. Popular sports include charreadas (rodeos) and soccer.

Handicrafts from Jalisco, Michoacán and other Mexican states are available in Guadalajara's many markets. The Casa de las Artesanías de Jalisco, just outside Parque Agua Azul, has a good selection. The suburbs of Tlaquepaque and Tonalá are home to major producers of handicrafts and furniture.
