There’s never a bad time to visit Kyoto. The Gion Matsuri festival, one of the largest in Japan, takes place over the course of July, but other festivals are celebrated throughout the year. The rainy season in Kyoto is in June and July, and the rest of the summer can be warm (80°F) and humid. If you’re interested in catching a glimpse of Kyoto’s natural beauty, plan a trip for late fall to take in the brilliant red of autumn foliage, or see the cherry blossoms in full bloom during the last week of March through the first week of April. Winter in Kyoto is cold (40°F) but dry.
