Overview

Langkawi Island is also a UNESCO Global Geopark, meaning it presents “a unique geological heritage of international value,” the country’s premier island escape, and home to Kilim Geoforest Park. One of the best ways to see the namesake island is via the Langkawi Sky Bridge, one of the world’s longest free span and curved suspension bridges. This pedestrian bridge’s deck sits at over 2,100 feet at the peak of majestic Gunung Mat Cincang. In addition to eponymous Langkawi, some of its must-visit islands include Pulau Dayang Bunting, the second-largest island in the archipelago, which is located south of Langkawi Island and is home to a large and revered freshwater lake; and Pulau Singa Besar, an undeveloped paradise of pristine beaches, dense rainforest, and wildlife, including eagles.

What To Do

Kilim Geoforest Park is an ecological area located on Langkawi Island. It is the first geopark in Southeast Asia, and contains countless natural wonders, including magnificent mangrove forests, beautiful beaches, ancient limestone rock formations that are millions of years old, alluring lagoons, and celestial caves. When it comes to island-hopping, don’t miss Pulau Dayang Bunting, which means “Island of the Pregnant Maiden,” one of the archipelago’s most scenic islands whose mystical Lake of the Pregnant Maiden is surrounded by lush forest; and Pulau Singa Besar, an enchanting undeveloped island covered with rainforest that is overflowing with flora and fauna and ringed with white-sand beaches.
